It is very common for Calabrians to go by their middle name so Maria could be her first or middle name. The processetti records for that 1835 marriage contain the birth record of Orsola Maria Di Giacomo born in 1816 to parents Giuseppe Di Giacomo and Teresa Brogno indicating she was Orsola Maria.^{1985, 1986, 1978}

In 1862, Maria married Marzio Antonio Aiello. On that marriage record, her name was listed as Maria Rosa De Giacomo. The processetti records for that marriage contain a copy of the birth record of Maria Rosa De Giacomo born in 1822 to parents Giuseppe De Giacomo and Teresa Brogno indicating she was Maria Rosa. Those same processetti records contain a copy of the 1851 death record of Angelo Gencarelli, Maria's first husband, proving the two Marias are the same person. ^{1980, 1987, 1988}

If the situation isn't muddled enough, the death record of Maria's first husband, Angelo Gencarelli, states he was the husband of Maria Francesca De Giacomo. The processetti copy of Angelo's death record mentioned above omits Francesca and lists her name only as Maria De Giacomo.^{1989, 1988}

Maria was undoubtedly the daughter of Giuseppe De Giacomo/Di Giacomo and Teresa Brogno but was she Orsolo Maria, Maria Rosa, or Maria Francesca (who does not seem to have a birth record)? Further research on Orsola Maria and Maria Rosa may be able to eliminate one or both from contention. For the moment, she is listed as Orsola Maria Di Giacomo.
